Anti aging nutrition has been a hot topic for some time now. The food we eat dramatically affects how our bodies perform and age. In the wealthiest countries of the world we have over weight but under nourished people and are quickly learning that we need to make better educated food choices. Our food had changed drastically in the last hundred years due to the populations migration to the city and industrialized farming practices.

Our nutrition affects everything about our bodies including it's anti aging abilities. The nutrients feed our cells, that become tissues, that become organs, that become systems. Signs of malnutrition

As we age our nutrition become more important as we usually need to consume less calories but need more nutrients. To reduce calories select nutrient-dense foods. Enjoy smaller portions of foods high in fat, sugar and sodium.

For your body to behave optimally your waist size should be less than 33 " for women and 35" or less for men. Danger zone is 37" or more for women, 40" or more for men. Get out those tape measures.

Wrinkles may be in all of our futures but that doesn't mean you can't fight them. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and is constantly fighting off toxins and other invaders. So, although a new diet won't clear away all your wrinkles or halt skin aging, nutrition can make a huge difference not only in how you look, but also how you feel. This in turn will influence how young or old you may appear to be.

Researchers are just beginning to explore the extent of diet's role in the skin aging process. One recent study revealed that people whose diets are rich in vegetables, beans, olive oil, nuts, and multi grain breads are less likely to wrinkle than those who eat red meat, butter, and sugary foods.

It is suspected that that antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E and the minerals zinc and selenium may keep wrinkles at bay by reducing the amount of potentially damaging free radicals produced by skin cells. Not to mention the disease fighting properties, because after all what is looking goo if you are too sick to enjoy it.

Foods that fight aging

  • Chia seeds. Introduced to the world by Dr. Oz. Who knew you could eat your chia pet? A grain that has one of the highest antioxidant lever of any whole food. It also contains Omega threes which are important for brain development and function as well as your skin. Aim for 2 doses daily. They are usually sold at health food stores but if I find a good online supplier I will put a link here.
  • Blueberries. Very yummy, easily found in season. If you pick your own watch out for bears. Seems they know all about these tasty health foods. I add them to everything. Pancakes, whole grain muffins, low fat ice cream. My children have asked me to stop.
  • Onions, apples, blackberries contain an antioxidant that strengthens the immune system and fights mental slippage. It may also protects your heart against disease, some forms of cancer and improve you respiratory system. Other sources are garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, and cranberries.
  • Folate and phytochemical. Very important for your hearing as well as for pregnant women. Found in leafy greens.
  • Lutein is great for you eyes. Remember the carrot thing? Turns out carrots are good for you night vision but for vision during the day you may want to eat leafy greens,broccoli, egg yolks and corn
  • Turmeric. Found in curries. Great for brain function and protects against Alzheimer's. I personally don't like curry so I am on a hunt for a recipe that I will eat that contains turmeric. If I find one, I'll post it.
  • Green tea. If you don't like tea you can always take supplements but I'm not sure how to supplement the tea ritual that I think is so soothing. It great for your prostrate and boost your immunity. Start bucks has a great green tea frappuccinos. Just know that the sugar is counteracting all the goodness of the green tea. They do sell the Tazo bags and you can go home and brew some sugarless stuff. They mix it with peppermint and it takes the edge of the green tea flavor if you aren't partial.

Not only do we want to beat aging to look good, but we also want to enjoy our life longer as well. Using nutrition as an anti aging method is an easy way to fight father time. It also affects your quality of life, after all, there is such a thing as aging gracefully. You health is important, take care of it. If you don't' have your health, nothing else matters.
